Through our wonderful network of volunteers, USA Girl Scouts Overseas supports Girl Scouts in over 100 communities in more than 80 countries all around the globe. USAGSO works with volunteer teams in our overseas locations to bring the Girl Scout Leadership Experience to girls across the globe.
Most of our overseas communities are managed by a team of administrative volunteers called the Overseas Committee Management Team or OCMT. Just like a Service Unit in the United States, an OCMT manages the Girl Scout program for a designated geographical region, such as a city or military installation.
OCMT volunteers meet throughout the year to share ideas, receive training, and talk about important announcements. They also organize events like community-wide service projects, summer day camps, cookie rallies, celebrations, ceremonies, and more!
At the beginning of each membership year, many committees hold a "Plan of Work" meeting where team members start planning for the year. With the start and end of the Girl Scout year OCMTs also go through a transition process for those leaving their roles and those who are entering new roles to ensure communities have all the information they need to support local members. OCMTs also provide regular meetings to troop leaders to share the latest Girl Scout news and announcements with everyone in the community.
Quarterly, USASGO hosts Overseas Updates: All the Need-To-Know Info for USAGSO Volunteers. These 1.5 hour webinars are run twice to meet all time-zone needs. The first hour is information that is relevant to all volunteers; the last half-hour is information that is pertinent to our OCMT members. Please see the Overseas Updates schedule, below:
Each Overseas Update covers timely, "need to know" information such as program and training opportunities, membership updates, news from GSUSA, and so much more. Can’t attend at the scheduled time? Not a probleM! Recordings will be made available in both gsLearn and the Overseas Updates e-newsletter, which is sent out to all volunteers the week after the live webinar.
On the off-months between Overseas Updates, we offer informal Networking and Office Hours. Make plans to join us for these sessions to meet other volunteers all around the world, share best practices, and pose any burning questions to USAGSO staff. Just like our Overseas Updates, we will run these 1-hour webinars twice to meet all time-zone needs. Please see the Networking and Office Hours schedule, below:
OCMT members also have access to a number of other resources from USAGSO. Some of these include the ability to manage community information via Looker, OCMT community incentives, training, and a USAGSO email address specific to their community. For more information about these resources please contact us.
