As a Girl Scout, you'll try new things, discover your hidden talents, gain amazing skills to use for a lifetime, have real-world learning experiences and- most importantly- find a supportive group of friends who have your back! The benefits of Girl Scouting are endless.

The Extended Year (EY) membership is an option for new members and allows you to join at a prorated price of $42 for adults and $133 for girls**.

This price includes membership for the remainder of the membership year 2026 and all of the 2027 year (April 1, 2026-September 30, 2027). This option gives families a one-time opportunity to start Girl Scouts in the spring and then continue participation in the fall with a troop. The Extended Year membership is available for purchase from April 1, 2026 through July 31, 2026.

If you register with USAGSO and find out you are moving, we will be happy to transfer your membership to a stateside council or another overseas community.

*Current members are not able to purchase Extended Year memberships as their current membership already covers participation this summer. Check out our Early Bird renewal options.

Extended Year Membership FAQs

What is Extended Year Membership? toggle arrow

New members can join Girl Scouts during the spring and experience all that Girl Scouts has to offer for a prorated 18-month membership. Extended Year memberships for the 2026-2027 membership year cover April 1, 2026-September 30, 2026.

Extended Year memberships allow Girl Scouts to join in the spring, take advantage of summer camp opportunities and then join a troop in the fall.

Extended Year memberships cost $42 for adults and $133 for girl members.

What types of activities are available to members who join during Extended Year? toggle arrow

Members who join during Extended Year can experience everything Girl Scouts has to offer, including joining a troop, getting involved in community-sponsored events, attending USA Girl Scouts Overseas summer camp and participating in virtual Girl Scout activities such as patch programs and challenges.

Can Pre-K girls join during Extended Year? toggle arrow

Yes. Girls who will enter Kindergarten in fall 2026 can register during Extended Year starting April 1 and participate in Girl Scouting activities throughout the summer.

Girls entering kindergarten and first grade in fall 2026 are also eligible for the Get Ready with Girl Scouts program. More details can be found here.

How will the Council Service Fee apply to Extended Year Membership? toggle arrow

Extended Year Girl Membership: Total is $133, which includes a $91 membership for up to 18 months, plus the $42 Council Service Fee (CSF). USAGSO charges a $30 CSF for a one-year membership and an additional $5 for the Extended Year option. Total membership fees for girls are $95 for one year or $133 for the Extended Year.

Extended Year Adult Membership: Total is $42, which includes a $30 membership for up to 18 months. Note that the CSF only applies to girl memberships and not to adult memberships. Total membership fees for adults are $30 for one year or $42 for the Extended Year.

Are Extended Year members also entitled to Early Bird incentives? toggle arrow

Yes! New members who purchase an Extended Year membership are eligible for all Early Bird incentives.

Will financial support be offered for Extended Year memberships? toggle arrow

We don't want finances to be a barrier to participating in Girl Scouting. You can request financial assistance for your Girl Scout membership.
