Community Volunteers

Through our wonderful network of volunteers, USA Girl Scouts Overseas supports Girl Scouts in over 100 communities in more than 80 countries all around the globe. USAGSO works with volunteer teams in our overseas locations to bring the Girl Scout Leadership Experience to girls across the globe.

Most of our overseas communities are managed by a team of administrative volunteers called the Overseas Committee Management Team or OCMT. Just like a Service Unit in the United States, an OCMT manages the Girl Scout program for a designated geographical region, such as a city or military installation.

OCMT Operations

OCMT volunteers meet throughout the year to share ideas, receive training, and talk about important announcements. They also organize events like community-wide service projects, summer day camps, cookie rallies, celebrations, ceremonies, and more!

At the beginning of each membership year, many committees hold a "Plan of Work" meeting where team members start planning for the year. With the start and end of the Girl Scout year OCMTs also go through a transition process for those leaving their roles and those who are entering new roles to ensure communities have all the information they need to support local members. OCMTs also provide regular meetings to troop leaders to share the latest Girl Scout news and announcements with everyone in the community. 

OCMT Roles

USAGSO’s Overseas Committee Management Teams are led by experienced volunteers who support troop leaders, other volunteers, and girls in a variety of roles. Key OCMT roles include:

  1. Overseas Committee Chair (OCC)
  2. Secretary
  3. Treasurer
  4. Registrar
  5. Recruiter
  6. OCMT Member
  7. Cookie Manager (only for eligible communities**)

Small communities usually start with just a Committee Chair and larger communities often have a full OCMT with additional positions like public relations, training coordinator, camp director, and more based on the unique needs of each community.

The members of the OCMT work to ensure the Girl Scouting experience is consistent across our global community. They also manage the finances, provide programmatic or outreach support, and so much more.

OCMT News and Information

From October-May on the second Tuesday of each month, USASGO hosts the Best of OCMT Monthly (BOOM) Live webinar. Each month the BOOM covers "need to know" information, program updates, upcoming events and trainings, and so much more. Can’t attend at the scheduled time? Not a problem. Recordings will be made available in the BOOM newsletter, which is sent out to each OCMT member the week after the live webinar.

OCMT members also have access to a number of other resources from USAGSO. Some of these include: the ability to manage community information via Looker, OCMT community incentives, trainings, access to the OCMT Google Drive, and a USAGSO email address specific to their community. For more information about these resources please contact us
