Learning the Stars and More at The Euro Space Center

November 01, 2024

In November 2024, USAGSO hosted an in-person STEM event at the Euro Space Center in Belgium. Girls had two days of unlimited access to the Euro Space Center with activities led by Girl Scout volunteers and Euro Space Center staff and got to stay overnight in the space room.

Enjoy this account of the experience from one our USAGSO Girl Scouts!

Hi, I am Kasey, a Girl Scout Cadette in Girl Scout Troop 133. This November, I went to the Euro Space Museum in Belgium with my troop and I had an awesome time. This was my first overseas experience as a Girl Scout.

At the STEM camp, we earned the “ Space Science Researcher” badge. Some of the things we did to earn this badge included making a rainbow, watching a movie called “Hidden Figures” and learning about the solar system in the planetarium. We got to make rockets in a group and go outside to launch them as well!

Some cool things that we did was a VR moonwalk experience to feel the weightlessness on the moon and Mars, controlling a rover to get through obstacles, and we went down a giant slide to feel a second of weight drop .

My favorite part was the gravity rotator. We got to spin really fast and then the floor came out from under us and we were glued to the wall! This experience helped us see what astronauts went through while operating with extreme force.

I can’t wait to go back next year so that I can have another amazing time with my friends. Thank you volunteers for helping me experience it, especially to Book Worm and Book Dragon who were my counselors and helped me experience these amazing things.
