Eniola is the youngest STEM Superhero to lead a session for our STEMinist: Virtual program. This young inventor kicked off the 2025-2026 year with her voice and invention! Read below to see how our STEMinist programming is making a difference in her life!
Girl Scouts from around the world logged on for something special for the first time ever- the virtual STEMinist event of 2025 program was led by its youngest STEM Superhero, Eniola Shokunbi. Eniola is a 12-year-old Connecticut inventor who guided participants through building a prototype and emphasized the importance of using their voices.
Eniola’s journey as an inventor started in her classroom, where she noticed the air felt stuffy and her friends often got sick. She wondered, “What if we could make the air cleaner?” That question sparked a mission that has taken her from reading about filters used in the White House to working with scientists at the University of Connecticut. Together, they built the Corsi-Rosenthal Box, a do-it-yourself air filter made from supplies available at a hardware store. This air filter removes 97% of viruses in the air in just 30 minutes!
During the STEMinist virtual session, Eniola shared her story and encouraged Girl Scouts to build together. She reminded Girl Scouts that anyone, no matter their age, can invent something that makes a difference. She shared that she even got the State of Connecticut to invest in thousands of air filters for schools! Eniola’s advice to us: “Your voice matters. If you are determined, you can do whatever you set your mind to.”
Girl Scouts got to experience the process of inventing and building with Eniola as she led them through how to build an air filter from supplies at home. Girl Scouts learned about prototypes and got to experience the challenges of inventing using different materials.
Thanks to Eniola, Girl Scouts everywhere are breathing easier- and dreaming bigger. Check out our STEMinist virtual happenings monthly and find an in-person STEMinist near you to join the fun.
