USAGSO launches the first national energy patch, inspiring girls everywhere to explore how we power our planet and take action for a brighter tomorrow.
USA Girl Scouts Overseas (USAGSO) is proud to introduce the newest addition to its STEMinist programming lineup- the Energy Superhero Patch. This hands-on energy patch, the first of its kind, takes Girl Scouts on an electrifying journey into the world of circuits, electricity and energy in motion, helping them understand the power of energy in everyday life.
This new patch builds on the sustainability and STEM career exploration badges, helping Girl Scouts see firsthand how energy links to real-world issues, such as climate change, renewable energy and engineering career pathways. From building circuits that light up greeting cards to racing solar-powered cars, Girl Scouts will explore the science of energy and discover how it powers our planet, shapes communities and impacts the environment.
“The Energy Superhero Patch is more than just a fun patch- it’s a pathway to building confidence and skills for leadership in STEM and sustainability,” said Kelly Bullard, Executive Director of USA Girl Scouts Overseas. “By exploring how energy works, building simple circuits and seeing how energy powers communities, the patch helps Girl Scouts to understand that energy is everywhere,” Bullard added.
The Energy Superhero Patch is designed to strengthen four key STEM outcomes proven to benefit girls. Through hands-on projects and connections with energy role models- true Energy Superheroes- Girl Scouts worldwide will gain the STEM knowledge, confidence, and creativity to understand and reimagine energy’s role in building a sustainable future.
This patch initiative is made possible with the support of a coalition including Apex Clean Energy, Orsted, The KidWind Project and the World Foundation for Girl Guides and Girl Scouts, whose commitment to empowering girls and advancing energy education brings the Energy Superhero Patch to life.
This patch will be co-developed with expert advisors, energy industry professional leaders, teachers and leading energy education organizations- and informed by insights from focus groups and pilots with Girl Scouts and their troop leaders.
The patch will be piloted through both virtual and in-person events in select Overseas Girl Scout communities beginning October 2026, followed by a full rollout, including hands-on workshops at USAGSO summer programs. This multi-year approach will give Girl Scouts across the globe exciting new ways to explore energy, innovation and sustainability.
By working together, USAGSO and its partners ensure that girls worldwide have access to the tools, role models and pathways to careers to examine and reimagine how we power our planet.
With every wire connected and every lightbulb lit, Girl Scouts in 86+ countries will be ready to power a brighter, more sustainable future.

The USAGSO STEMinist program empowers Girl Scouts worldwide to explore science, technology, engineering, and math through hands-on learning, global connections and role model engagement. Designed to spark curiosity and build STEM confidence, STEMinist patches and activities provide girls with virtual and in-person opportunities to experiment, innovate and envision themselves as future leaders in STEM fields. STEM Superheroes has been the program partner delivering this initiative to nearly 2,000 Girl Scouts worldwide since its launch in 2020.
