Global Citizen Challenge
"I am a citizen, not of Athens, or Greece, but of the world." — Socrates
What is a Global Citizen? A global citizen is a person who is aware of the world and has a sense of their role in it. They respect and value diversity, and fight against social injustices. Global citizens are active in their community, helping to make it a better place. The idea teaches us that, despite our differences, we are all connected and share the same experiences, like playing games, celebrating holidays and getting excited over your favorite foods.
As global citizens, we look for, learn about, and welcome the uniqueness between people. We are accepting and inclusive of ideas and values that are different to our own. Girl Scout living overseas who embrace being global citizens then also set positive examples in our host countries by making friends with local people, sharing our home culture, and taking steps to improve the community. Doing this helps us bridge different cultures to build peace and to celebrate the diversity in our world.
