Black Girls Matter: Stand Up
Find your voice. Tell your story. Stand up to racism.
Join USA Girl Scouts Overseas and Amanda Nelson, Director of Communication at the San Diego Housing Federation to practice standing up for yourself and others in the face of adversity!
Last year, Amanda was fired from her previous job for speaking up about a housing proposal in her neighborhood. Because she advocated for a permanent solution to supportive housing in her affluent neighborhood, she suddenly found herself doxxed online and complete strangers flooded her previous employer with phone calls demanding her termination.
When she was fired, Amanda didn't know exactly where she'd land or when she'd fully recover, but she knew it would be something big. She never gave up! Today, she is working on behalf of the cause she stood up for -- affordable housing -- in a role with greater reach and responsibility. Not to mention, being recently named a 2020 Women of Influence by SD Metro Magazine!
During our hour with Amanda, we'll hear how she found the strength to overcome the challenges she faced. We'll discuss bullying and doxxing, plus advice about what to do if you ever find yourself on the receiving end of either. And, we'll leave inspired to not only stand up for ourselves in the face of adversity, but to fight for others as well!
