EB PATCH 19-20

Early Bird Information

No matter where in the world you move, Girl Scouting will continue to play an important role in your daughter’s journey to greatness. Help her continue to reach for the stars by renewing her Girl Scouts membership this Early Bird season from  May 1, 2019 to June 30, 2019

A girl membership** for the 2020 Membership Year costs a total of $45, which includes a $25 GSUSA membership due and a $20 USAGSO Council Service Fee (CSF). Included in her Early Bird membership is USAGSO's first ever Early Bird Unicorn patch (featured above)!

**Adult members can also renew during Early Bird (you just don't get the patch, sorry!). An adult membership for the 2020 Membership Year is $25.

Early Bird FAQs

When is Early Bird registration available?

The registration period for Early Bird starts on May 1, 2019 and ends June 30, 2019. To qualify for the Early Bird incentives, members must have fully completed the registration process by June 30, 2019 at 11:59 EST.

If you encounter issues completing your registration, contact us and we can assist you in making the deadline.

Who can register for Early Bird?

Currently registered Girl Scouts members (renewing members only).

What are the incentives for Early Bird?

All members who renew for Early Bird 2019-2020, will have access to great incentives from USAGSO. First, all girl members will receive our brand new (and first ever unicorn) Early Bird patch and all members who renew this year will receive a one-time only 20% discount** from the USAGSO's Shop, Girl Scout World.

You will receive the discount code through email after your Early Bird renewal is processed, which may take up to a week. For questions, please contact overseascustomercare@girlscouts.org.

**Discount cannot be applied to orders placed through the GSUSA store. The discount must be used for individual purchases – not OCMT or Troop purchases, and cannot be combined with other specials (i.e. camp kits). Discount must be used by September 30, 2019.

What if we’re moving this summer?

USA Girl Scouts Overseas provides a sense of security and stability as families transition to new locations, giving girls an immediate support network and friendship group with whom they have something in common. Show your daughter that you believe in the power of G.I.R.L. by continuing her Girl Scout journey into next year.

If you are transitioning back to the United States, USAGSO can easily transfer your 2020 membership to a stateside council.  If you are moving to another overseas community, USAGSO can also easily transfer your membership.

No matter where you go, we will find the right Girl Scout opportunity for your family!  The Early Bird patch will be sent to your current Overseas Committee. In order to receive the patch, please provide them your new mailing address.

My daughter is a Juliette. Can she still participate?

Yes!  Early Bird patches are for any girl who registered by the June 30, 2019 deadline – whether she’s in a troop or not.

On another note, we have an exciting new resource for our individually registered members to help you through your individual Girl Scouting experience.

What about NEW members?

The "Extended-Year" membership is an option for NEW members and allows for them to join at a prorated price of $35 for adults and $60 for girls**.

This price includes membership for the current and following year. This option gives families a one-time incentive to start Girl Scouts in the summer (perhaps registering for a camp) and then continue participation into the fall for a troop experience. The "Extended-Year" option is available for USAGSO members from April 1, 2019 through September 30, 2019.

This option will not be available for renewing members, as their current membership already covers participation in the summer.

I’m a parent and I renewed by the deadline, but my troop leader didn’t. Does my daughter still get a patch?

If you renew your daughter through your MyGS account, then yes she will receive the Early Bird patch!

If the troop leader decides to be responsible for renewing troop members, we suggest setting a troop deadline by which parents must pay the leader for the registrations well in advance of the June 30 deadline. If the troop leader decides that individual parents will be responsible for renewing their daughter, we encourage the troop leader to communicate the Early Bird deadline to the parents early and often.

Early Bird & the Renewal System

What if I can’t see the option to renew in the system?

Refer to our Systems Resources, VTK Guide, or VTK videos on our website.  There are helpful tutorials and step-by-step guides to assist you.  If you have additional questions, contact our customer care team, or give us a call at 1-800-467-0070.  We’ll look into it on the administrative end to remedy the issue.

When I go into the system to renew, I don’t see all the members. What should I do?

If you are missing members of your troop or household, please immediately send an email to our customer care team. They will work with you to get your troop/household list updated.

Due to an anticipated increase in the number of these types of requests, we strongly urge you to review your troop/household list now and let us know of any missing members. Waiting until the last minute could result in troop/family members missing out on the Early Bird incentives.

I’ve tried to log into MyGS but my password doesn’t work. I’ve clicked the “reset password” button several times, but nothing happens.

If this happens, please submit an email to our customer care team. This usually means the email address you are using to access MyGS doesn’t match what we have on your account. We can quickly take care of this – just let us know!

I’ve never logged into my MyGS account. How do I do that?

We will be happy to send you your login instructions – just email us at overseascustomercare@girlscouts.org and we’ll take care of it.

My daughter's new troop does not appear in the opportunity catalog, can she still participate in Early Bird?

Girls are members of their 2018-2019 Membership Year Girl Scout troop until 11:59pm (Eastern Daylight Saving time) on September 30, 2019. Because they have paid for a full membership year, the system will not remove them from that troop until the year has ended.

We understand that sometimes troops start to form and begin meeting before September 30. The troop leader can always add girls to her troop, via her MyGS account, even if the troop is full.

If the guardian is trying to renew her Girl Scout, we recommend: renewing her membership from your online MyGS account and, when you get to the opportunity catalog screen, select "Unsure". Upon selecting "Unsure", a popup box will appear with the question "Why did you select Unsure?". In this box, please provide the full 5 digit troop number and the name of the troop leader. We will then be able to move your Girl Scout into her new troop.
